I was 15 when I became pregnant. I was so confused and I didn’t know if I could give my child everything she needed. I was sure, however, that I was not going to give my child to someone I did not know. Eight months went by and I was still the only one that knew about my unplanned pregnancy. I didn’t get very big, so I wore baggy shirts that covered everything.
My dad finally found out. He took me to the doctor, who decided to send me to the hospital. They told me that my tests showed that I was in labor. That meant that I had a lot of thinking to do. My dad gave me the phone number to Adoption Associates and I told him that I wasn’t going to call them. But I did a lot of thinking and I came to the realization that I wanted to do only the best for my child.
I called Adoption Associates, Inc, and they connected me with a caseworker who was there for me every second I needed her. She explained adoption to me and told me all the options I had as the birth mom. After talking to my caseworker, I decided adoption was the best option. When she then told me that I could pick the family for my baby I felt even better about it.
She gave me a folder with profiles of couples who wanted to adopt. I chose an adoptive couple and was very happy to know that I could meet them. After we met, I knew that I had chosen the right family for my child. We both agreed on have an open adoption. Now, every year on my daughter’s birthday I receive pictures and a letter about how she is doing. I’m glad that I had that option. Now I am not worried and wondering, “Did I make the right decision?” I know that I made the right decision to place my daughter for adoption.
